“With this serenade of luminous verses
I tell my story and my inheritance,
a weaving of bonds and deep affection,
a flowing of loving rivers
and capricious destinies.

Capricious destiny
that Freddy, my singing father,
born in Mexico,
so beloved a lighthouse,
would give his soul and heart
to the salty Cuban woman,
of strong and portentous vibration,
who carried Hope
not only in her blessed name
but in her smile and in her dress.

Songs and flowers go forth
in gratitude and praise
for Freddy and Esperanza,
these rivers of songs
from Mexico and Cuba,
lands of my love.”
